Sustainable Farming

At Picket Fence we are committed to sustainable farming practices. Our vineyards have cover crops planted between the vineyard rows to control erosion, improve soil structure, add nutrients and host beneficial predators. Our Viticulturist Pete Opatz and his crews walk the vineyards every week even when the vines are dormant; feeling strongly that his "boots on the ground" approach is the best way to ensure nutrient rich soils and vineyards. We also encourage the natural growth of native plants along the property boundaries to control invasive weeds and increase plant and animal biodiversity. Sustainable farming produces healthy soils and fruit, fruit that we feel makes balanced, superior wines.
